Diri Baba Mausoleum

The Diri Baba Mausoleum is a sanctuary carved directly into rock and contains two stacked levels with prayer rooms inside. The interior walls display geometric patterns, and the upper chamber is particularly elaborate in its decoration.

This sanctuary was built in 1402 during the Shirvanshahs period, a time of artistic and architectural development in the region. The names of craftspeople are carved into the walls, providing information about the builders of this remarkable work.

The site attracts pilgrims and believers who come to meditate and pray within its chambers. For many people in the region, this location holds deep spiritual meaning that has been maintained across centuries.

The site sits west of Baku and is reachable by road through nearby villages. Stairs carved into the rock lead through both levels, so wear appropriate footwear for climbing.

The structure appears to float directly out from the rock face, achieved through careful placement and the cliff's angle. This visual effect makes the building especially striking from certain viewpoints.
