Monument to fallen Krajina soldiers, War memorial in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Monument to fallen Krajina soldiers is a war memorial in Banja Luka built around a central stone structure that takes the shape of a bullet when seen from above. Its four sides are covered with socialist-realist reliefs showing scenes from the National Liberation War.
The memorial was built in 1961 to honor soldiers from the Krajina region who fought during the Second World War against the occupying forces and their allies. It was erected at a time when Yugoslavia actively shaped its public memory around the wartime resistance movement.
The front of the memorial features a carved stone figure of a Krajisnik soldier, made from white stone quarried on the Croatian island of Brač. The reliefs along the sides show battle scenes that visitors can read as they walk around the structure.
The memorial stands about 3 miles (5 km) from central Banja Luka, so a car or local bus is the easiest way to get there. Once on site, the open grounds allow visitors to walk freely around the structure without any barriers.
The structure is aligned so that it points directly toward the Kozara and Grmeč mountain ranges, both of which were key areas of wartime resistance activity. This orientation was deliberate, giving the memorial a physical connection to the landscapes where many of the remembered soldiers fought.
