Arnaudija Mosque, Ottoman mosque in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Arnaudija Mosque is a house of worship built in Ottoman style with a prominent central dome, sturdy stone walls, and intricate Islamic ornaments covering both interior and exterior surfaces. The structure combines balanced proportions with carefully crafted details that show the quality of the original construction.
The mosque was built in 1595 under the direction of Hasan Defterdar and ranks among the important Ottoman structures in the region. After its destruction in 1993, it lay in ruins for decades before complete reconstruction began in 2017.
This house of worship serves as the main gathering place for Muslims in Banja Luka and has been carefully restored with traditional details. Visitors can observe how Islamic craftsmanship and spiritual life are woven into the daily rhythm of the city.
The mosque is located in the city center and can be explored on foot; visitors should wear appropriate clothing and be mindful during prayer times. It is helpful to check opening hours beforehand and move through the interior space with respect.
This mosque was destroyed at the same time as the nearby Ferhadija Mosque and both were later rebuilt, so they share the same story of resilience. This spatial and temporal connection makes both places witnesses to the same historical events.
