Konjuh, Mountain peak in Banovići Municipality, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Konjuh is a mountain peak reaching about 1200 meters in Banovići Municipality. Its slopes are thickly forested with pine, spruce, beech, and maple trees that create dense woodland cover.
The mountain contains several medieval burial sites with around 500 identified stećak tombstones. These stone monuments date back centuries and mark a continuous presence of people in this region.
The mountain served as a passage on ancient trade routes where salt from the Tuzla region was moved through mountain passes. These routes shaped how people historically moved through and understood this landscape.
Several marked hiking trails lead to the summit with access points from the Tuzla-Sarajevo highway along its northeastern side. The routes are accessible to different skill levels, and sturdy footwear helps on the forest paths.
The mountain is a protected landscape where the rare great yellow gentian grows alongside brown bears, wolves, and various snake species. This concentration of endangered species makes it an important nature reserve in the region.
