Vlah Church, Serbian Orthodox church in Donji Kraji, Montenegro
Vlah Church is a Serbian Orthodox place of worship in Donji Kraji built with stone walls in a traditional Byzantine style. The grounds include a cemetery featuring two preserved medieval tombstones called stećci.
The building was founded in 1450 as a simple structure made of wood and clay. It was later reinforced with stone and lime mortar, reaching its present form by 1864.
The church serves the local Serbian Orthodox community and reflects the historical role of shepherds who lived in this mountain region. Visitors today can see how the building sits naturally within the pastoral landscape that shaped the area.
The site is accessible on foot and the cemetery is open for visitors to explore freely. The stećci tombstones are easy to locate within the peaceful cemetery grounds.
Part of the fence surrounding the church is made from metal taken from rifles captured during the Battle of Grahovac in 1858. This unusual building material shows how the community marked a significant military moment.
