Stanjevići Monastery

Stanjevići Monastery is an Orthodox monastery on the southern slopes of Mount Lovćen, featuring a church dedicated to the Holy Trinity and traditional stone architecture. The complex displays the typical construction of Montenegrin mountain monasteries with thick walls and small windows.

After Cetinje was raided in 1714, a bishop relocated to this monastery and established it as a residence for Montenegrin church leaders. This location remained an important religious center for the region over an extended period.

The monastery displays portraits of the Petrović dynasty and houses icons created in 1738 by a monastic painter. These artworks reflect the monastery's connection to the region's noble history.

The best time to visit is during warmer months, as the mountain road can be challenging during other seasons. Appropriate footwear is important since the paths are steep and rocky.

The church interior displays wood carvings that show not only religious figures but also personalities from recent history. This blend of religious and contemporary imagery is unusual for such a place.
