Church of the transfiguration of Jesus Christ in Trebinje, Orthodox church in central Trebinje, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Church of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ stands in Jovan Dučić park with a 38 meter tall bell tower topped by a gilded cross, combining Roman-Gothic architecture with Byzantine elements. The stone structure rises prominently above the park and anchors the central skyline of the city.
Construction began in 1888 and was completed in 1908, marking a major expansion of Orthodox architecture in Herzegovina. The two decades of building work shaped the development of Trebinje as a religious and cultural center.
The interior displays paintings of prominent Serbian figures like Nikola Tesla and Petar II Petrović Njegoš alongside religious imagery. This blend shows how the community honors both spiritual faith and national heritage through its decoration.
The church opens daily from 7 am to 9 pm, making it accessible for visitors to explore the interior and religious artworks. The adjoining eparchy building houses a library and icon painting studio that may be open to visitors with interest in these facilities.
The church holds the ceremonial headdress of Saint Vasilije of Ostrog and received his relics in 1996, making it a destination for pilgrims. People continue to visit to pay respects to these sacred remains.
