Osman-paša Resulbegović mosque, Ottoman mosque in Trebinje, Bosnia and Herzegovina
The Osman-paša Resulbegović mosque is a religious building with an octagonal stone minaret standing 16 meters tall in Trebinje. It was built entirely with hewn stone blocks and features a four-eaved roof, positioned near the entrance gateway of Hadžihasanović's Tower.
The mosque was built in 1726 by Osman Pasha Resulbegović, replacing an earlier building from 1719 that was dedicated to Sultan Ahmed III. This reflects how religious structures in the region changed during Ottoman times.
The interior walls display traditional Islamic craftsmanship through ornamental patterns and calligraphic inscriptions. You can see how these decorative elements create a spiritual space for worship.
The building is located in Trebinje's Old Town and observes regular prayer schedules that visitors should respect. Guided visits are available to learn about the architectural features and design of the space.
The building holds the distinction of being the largest Islamic prayer space in Herzegovina and was constructed with careful craftsmanship using hewn stone blocks. The solid stone construction gives it a distinctive presence in the town.
