Nawabganj National Park, Nature reserve and national park in Dinajpur District, Bangladesh
Nawabganj National Park is a protected forest area covering approximately 517 hectares in Dinajpur, where teak and sal trees grow alongside many orchid species. The mix of plants provides habitat for a range of wildlife that makes this forest its home.
The park received its official designation in October 2010 when the government established it as a protected area to safeguard local ecosystems. This decision marked an important turning point for the forest and the creatures that depend on it.
The forest is known locally as Nawabganj Shal Bagaan, named after the sal trees that dominate much of the landscape and shape how people connect with the land. Residents have their own relationship with this place, built on generations of knowledge about the plants and animals that live here.
The park sits about one kilometer northwest of Nawabganj Upazila headquarters and features clearly marked walking paths throughout the forest. These trails make it straightforward to explore the area and observe plants and animals as you move through the woodland.
A nearby water body called Ashura Bill is home to eight endangered fish species and supports a seasonal aquatic harvest for local communities. This water feature reveals how human activities in the region remain closely tied to the natural surroundings.
