Laeken - Laken, part of the city of Brussels, Belgium

Laeken is located in the north-western part of the Brussels-Capital Region, and is identified by the postal code 1020. Before 1921, Laeken used to be a separate municipality. Laeken might not be the first place to come to mind when visiting Brussels, but it is definitely worth a visit. Laeken is home to many hidden gems, from historical monuments to parks and historic buildings. Start your adventure in Laeken by exploring the Royal Castle of Laeken. It was the official residence of the former Belgian monarchs. The castle dates back to the early 19th century, and was designed by the renowned French architect Charles Girault. The castle complex also includes a gorgeous park with a garden and a majestic fountain. The Atomium is also located in Laeken. The iconic metal structure, which was built for the World's Fair Expo in 1958, is a must-visit for anyone travelling in the area. You can admire beautiful views of the city from the top of the structure, as well as explore the many fascinating exhibitions located inside. If you are looking for some fresh air, head over to the nearby Jules Van Praetpark. This large public park is a great place to stroll around and spot some local wildlife. The park contains a playground for children as well as many fountains and sculptures. Finally, don’t forget to visit the Chinese Pavilion, located at the northern end of Laeken. Built in 1917, this beautiful pavilion is an ode to classic Chinese architecture, with its curved roof and winding corridors. It's the perfect spot to snap a few photos. Those are the highlights of Laeken, the residential suburb in the north-western part of the Brussels-Capital Region. Whether you're after a relaxing and tranquil stroll in the park or a history lesson in the Royal Castle of Laeken, this suburb is sure to awaken your curiosity.
