Kuipke, Indoor velodrome in Citadelpark, Ghent, Belgium
Kuipke is an indoor velodrome located in Citadelpark in Ghent, featuring a wooden track approximately 167 meters long with steeply banked curves. The facility seats around 3,000 spectators and hosts major cycling events throughout the year.
The original building was destroyed by fire in 1962, but the facility was completely rebuilt in 1965. The reconstruction maintained the original track dimensions from the earlier version.
The venue hosted jazz musician Louis Armstrong's legendary performance in 1959 and later became the filming location for the television show The Voice Flanders. These events highlight how the space has held cultural moments beyond cycling competitions.
The venue is easily accessible by public transport and has parking nearby. The best time to visit is during major cycling events, particularly in November when the famous Six Days race takes place.
The track is nicknamed 'Little Tub' by cyclists, a name reflecting its compact size and steep banking. This distinctive shape makes it an intense racing surface that stands apart from other European velodromes.
