Deurne

Deurne is an eastern district of Antwerp featuring about 20 neighborhoods with a mix of homes, parks, and historic buildings. The area includes the Rivierenhof park with its large green spaces, Saint Fredegandus Church, and Sterckshof Castle, creating a varied landscape of residential and landmark sites.

The area began as a small farming community under Frankish settlement during Roman times and later became an independent municipality. It was merged into Antwerp as a district in 1983, transforming its status within the region.

The name Deurne comes from Old Low Franconian and refers to "three waters" or streams that once flowed through the area. This ancient water landscape still shapes how locals and visitors experience the district's green spaces and parks today.

The district is well connected by tram and bus services that link it regularly to central Antwerp, with stops throughout the northern and southern areas. Getting around by public transportation is straightforward and convenient for residents and visitors exploring the neighborhoods.
