Plopsaland, Amusement park in De Panne, Belgium
Plopsaland is a theme park in De Panne on the Belgian coast with more than 55 attractions spread across large grounds near the North Sea. The site divides into several themed areas with roller coasters, water rides and play zones for children of different ages.
The site began in 1935 as Meli Park, a place for educating visitors about beekeeping and honey production. Studio 100 acquired the grounds in 2000 and renamed it, integrating television characters into the design.
The name comes from Kabouter Plop, a character from a Belgian television series known across the Low Countries. Visitors meet characters from television shows at different stations throughout the grounds during their stay.
The park opens on certain days of the week, especially Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday during the main season. Guests who wish to stay longer can book rooms at the Theater Hotel or overnight accommodation directly on the grounds.
The roller coaster Ride to Happiness reaches a speed of 90 kilometers per hour (56 miles per hour) in two seconds and ranks among the fastest worldwide. The ride was developed in collaboration with the Tomorrowland music festival and combines technology with festival atmosphere.
