Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Eastern Orthodox cathedral in central Sofia, Bulgaria

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral features three main domes reaching 53 meters high, with a central bell tower containing twelve ceremonial bells.

The cathedral construction started in 1882 to commemorate Russian soldiers who died liberating Bulgaria from Ottoman rule during the 1877-1878 war.

The cathedral crypt contains an extensive collection of Orthodox Christian icons from different periods of Bulgarian religious art and history.

Visitors can access the cathedral daily from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with guided tours available in multiple languages at the entrance.

The interior decoration combines Italian marble, Brazilian onyx, and German metal elements, representing international craftsmanship from the early 1900s.
