Damga, Mountain summit in Rila Mountains, Bulgaria
Damga Peak is a mountain summit in the Rila Mountains rising to 2,669 meters, forming a central point between Razdela Pass and Dodov Peak in the northwestern section. The mountain occupies an important position along the main geographical lines that shape the entire region.
The peak received its name from a boundary stone placed on its southern slope, marking territorial limits of a monastery in the region. This historical marker shows how important the area was for religious administration in the mountains.
The peak is also known as Vazov Peak and serves as an important geographical landmark where the main water divide of the Balkan Peninsula continues northward toward Haramiyata.
The most direct route begins from Ivan Vazov Hut and requires around an hour of hiking along marked trails through alpine terrain. The path is clearly marked on most sections, making it straightforward to follow during your climb.
The northeastern slopes drop steeply into the Urdini Cirque, while the western side transitions gradually into the grassy surfaces of Pazardere. This contrast between dramatic and gentle slopes creates a viewpoint where different landscape zones meet.
