Купените, Mountain summit in Rila Range, Bulgaria.
Kupenten is a multi-peaked mountain in the Rila Range made up of several connected summits along a ridge. The peaks vary in height, with the highest point reaching approximately 2731 meters (8963 feet) above sea level.
The first recorded ascent took place in 1953 when mountaineers successfully summited the Middle peak. This early climbing activity established the route for modern hikers and climbers visiting today.
The peak's name derives from its shape resembling haystacks, reflecting the agricultural heritage and traditional observations of local Bulgarian communities.
The climb from Maliovitsa Hut typically takes about two hours in good conditions and follows a mountain ridge route. A shelter at Strashnoto Lake provides a stopping point for resting and changing plans if needed.
The northern side of the smaller peak displays rocky sections made of granite and mica schist that attract technical climbers. This unusual rock composition sets it apart from many other summits in the surrounding area.
