Apriltsi

The town stretches across a valley at 550 meters elevation near Botev Peak, formed by the combination of four mountain villages: Novo Selo, Zla Reka, Vidima, and Ostrets.

Archaeological findings from the Neolithic period, including vessels and coins from the 4th-3rd century BC, indicate long-term settlement in the Apriltsi region.

The region maintains its mountain character through preserved 19th-century Bulgarian houses and traditional architecture spread across its constituent former villages.

The town functions as the administrative center of Apriltsi Municipality, managing an area of 240 square kilometers within the Central Balkan National Park.

The location ranks first in Europe for oxygen saturation levels, matching the measurements of Karlovy Vary, leading to its historical use for respiratory health treatments.
