Stara Zagora, Regional capital in central Bulgaria
Stara Zagora is a larger city situated in the Upper Thracian Plain in central Bulgaria. The area is surrounded by vineyards, orchards, and the southern foothills of the Sredna Mountains.
The settlement began in the 7th millennium BC and was later established as the Roman city Augusta Traiana. It grew to become the second most important center in the Roman province of Thrace.
The Regional History Museum holds over 100,000 artifacts spanning from ancient times to the present day. The collection reveals how life in this region evolved through different periods.
The city has a network of trolleybuses and regular buses serving major locations. Train connections to Sofia and the Black Sea coast are well-developed and reliable.
The Neolithic Dwellings Museum preserves homes dating to the 6th millennium BC. The collection ranks among Europe's most complete prehistoric settlement remains.
