Aiadava, Ancient Dacian settlement in Bela Palanka, Serbia.
Aiadava is an archaeological site of a former Roman town spread across a large area near Bela Palanka. The visible remains show fortified walls, residential foundations, and traces of administrative buildings from different time periods.
The location was first settled by Dacian peoples before being incorporated into the Roman Empire and renamed. Over several centuries the settlement changed names and administrative roles before eventually being abandoned.
The settlement served as a trade crossroads in Roman times, connecting distant parts of the empire through merchant networks. Local inhabitants used the fortified center as a hub for exchanging goods and information across provinces.
The site is accessible but many remains lie beneath modern structures or are embedded in the ground. It helps to bring a local guide or research the conditions before visiting to understand the layout better.
A notable feature is a 3rd-century monument to a Roman emperor preserved beneath the modern townscape. Archaeologists have also uncovered remains of an early Christian basilica, showing how the place transformed across centuries.
