Marvelous Bridges

The formation consists of two connected marble bridges spanning the Erkupria River, with the larger arch reaching 45 meters in height and 40 meters in width.

The natural arches formed over millions of years through water erosion of marble rocks, resulting in a cave system that partially collapsed, creating these formations.

Local tales mention a dragon that swallowed a donkey loaded with tinder, and in its painful escape created the cavities that became the marble bridges.

The site stands at 1450 meters altitude, located 80 kilometers south of Plovdiv, with dedicated parking areas and traditional restaurants near the viewing points.

A third, lesser visible marble arch exists as a ponor cave where the Erkupria River waters disappear underground and resurface three kilometers downstream.
