Ambaritsa hut, Mountain hut in Troyan Municipality, Bulgaria
Ambaritsa hut is a two-building mountain refuge situated at 1520 meters elevation with 111 beds spread across multiple rooms, each with access to external bathrooms and a shared kitchen for guests. The facility includes electricity, running water, heating from wood-burning stoves, and a communal dining space designed to support both winter and summer visitors.
The hut was founded in 1935 on the northern slopes of Stara Mountain in the Dalgi Dyal region, positioned east of Momina Mogila peak. This elevated location established it as a key stopping point for climbers and hikers exploring the surrounding terrain.
The name Ambaritsa comes from local stories about King Mark's grain stores, linking this location to Bulgarian folklore and regional tales passed down through generations.
The hut operates year-round and serves as a good base for hikes to the Cherni Osam River springs and activities in the surrounding mountains. Visitors should bring warm clothes since the high elevation means cooler temperatures than lower areas, and weather conditions can change quickly.
From the hut, visitors can explore trails that lead to the springs of the Cherni Osam River, which originates from two small streams on the western side. These water sources are a hidden feature that shows how tiny mountain rivulets come together to form a larger river in this terrain.
