Peeshti Skali Reserve

The Peeshti Skali Reserve spans 1,465.7 hectares within the Balkan Mountains, featuring dense beech forests that cover 71 percent of its territory.

Established in 1979, the reserve became part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe.

The eastern rock formations of Kalofer Mountain produce distinct sounds when wind passes through them, leading to the name Peeshti Skali, meaning Singing Rocks.

Visitors can access multiple hiking trails throughout the reserve while observing wildlife such as bears, wolves, red deer, and both golden and imperial eagles.

The reserve contains specific tree varieties including sycamore, ash, and hornbeam, alongside seasonal displays of red and black blueberries and spring-blooming crocuses.
