The nature reserve spans 3,929 hectares across the eastern Danubian Plain, with forests covering 90 percent of its territory at elevations up to 502 meters.
The plateau contains remnants of ancient settlements, with archaeological evidence indicating continuous human presence from Thracian times through the Second Bulgarian Kingdom.
The park features the Founders of the Bulgarian State Monument, built to commemorate 1300 years of Bulgarian history through architectural representations.
Visitors access multiple marked trails for hiking and cycling, while the information center provides maps, guides, and bicycle rental services.
The park houses sixty limestone caves, including Biserna Cave extending 2.6 kilometers, where fourteen bat species establish their colonies.
