Kivalliq Region, Administrative region in Nunavut, Canada
The Kivalliq Region spans over 434,331 square kilometers of land west of Hudson Bay, including Southampton Island and Coats Island in Nunavut.
The territory transformed from Keewatin Region of Northwest Territories to Kivalliq Region in 1999 when Nunavut became an independent Canadian territory.
Seven communities within the region maintain Inuit traditions while adapting to modern life, with Rankin Inlet serving as the administrative center.
Access to the region requires air travel through major Canadian cities, with regular flights connecting to Rankin Inlet throughout the year.
The land experiences the fastest post-glacial rebound on Earth, rising up to 17 millimeters annually as it recovers from ancient ice sheet pressure.
