CFB Petawawa

The Canadian Forces Base Petawawa extends over 30,770 hectares along the Ottawa and Petawawa rivers, featuring 465 buildings and training facilities.

Established in 1905 as Petawawa Military Camp with 22,430 acres of land, the base trained the Royal Canadian Horse and Garrison Artillery during its first summer.

The name Petawawa stems from Algonquian language, referring to the sound of water flowing over rocks in the nearby river.

The base maintains facilities for 6,000 military personnel and 1,000 civilian employees, offering comprehensive medical services and recreational infrastructure.

CFB Petawawa hosted Canada's first military aircraft flight on July 31, 1909, marking a significant milestone in Canadian aviation history.
