The sand deposits were formed by the Ottawa River at the conclusion of the last glacial period, creating dunes that mirror ancient ocean shorelines.
The park houses 300 plant species and serves as a nature study area for ecological research on wetland plant communities and wildlife populations.
Visitors can reach the park via County Road 21, parking near the gated entrance and continuing on foot to explore the natural environment.
The park permits waterfowl hunting within its boundaries, which differs from standard regulations in other Ontario provincial parks.
