Kenosee Lake, Resort village and endorheic lake in Saskatchewan, Canada

Kenosee Lake is a resort village in Saskatchewan set inside Moose Mountain Provincial Park. The lake has several islands and is bordered by sandy beaches, fishing spots, and trails that wind through the surrounding park.

The lake was originally known as Fish Lake and received its current name in the early 1930s, taken from an Indigenous language. Around the same time, the provincial park was established, which helped draw the first wave of visitors to the area.

The name Kenosee comes from an Indigenous language and means something close to "fish lake," which echoes the original name the lake carried before it was officially renamed. Two old dance halls still stand in the village, giving a sense of how people once came together for social evenings in this remote corner of Saskatchewan.

The village sits at the edge of the provincial park and is reached by well-marked roads. Summer is the busiest time, with the lake open for swimming and the trails easy to walk, while winter draws visitors for activities on the frozen water.

Beavers were brought into the area in the 1920s, and their dam-building gradually raised the water level of the lake in ways nobody had planned for. The local community later had to take steps to manage the effects this had on the surrounding land.
