Ashbridge Estate, Ontario Heritage Trust property in Leslieville, Toronto, Canada.
Ashbridge Estate is a house built in Regency style, featuring neoclassical touches such as decorative brick detailing along its exterior. The two-acre property sits on Queen Street East and displays the original design from the early 1800s.
The Ashbridge family received this land in 1796 as English Quakers and United States Loyalists fleeing the American Revolution. The house was built on their grant and has remained a landmark of local Toronto history since then.
The estate takes its name from the Ashbridge family, English Quakers who made this their home. Walking through the rooms, you can see household objects that belonged to different family generations and hint at how they lived day to day.
The property sits right on Queen Street East, making it easy to find and access by public transportation. Visitors can explore the grounds at their own pace, and facilities including washrooms are available on site.
Excavations conducted between 1987 and 2000 revealed artifacts from late 18th-century settlement and much earlier Indigenous presence on the grounds. This discovery shows the land had been occupied and used for centuries before the Ashbridge family arrived.
