Dr. William D. Young Memorial

This memorial is a fountain with Italian Renaissance architecture located in Kew Gardens, built from stone and featuring bronze medallions along with a statue positioned at the gardens' eastern boundary. It functions as both a working drinking fountain and a quiet gathering spot throughout the park.

The fountain was built in 1920 through public donations to honor a physician who died in 1918 during the influenza epidemic. Dr. Young had spent years providing medical care to residents, often without payment.

The inscription 'Service Was His Aim' reflects how early Toronto doctors committed themselves to community wellbeing long before public healthcare existed in Canada.
