Bell Media Tower, Postmodern skyscraper in Downtown Montreal, Canada
The Bell Media Tower is a postmodern glass-and-steel skyscraper on McGill College Avenue in downtown Montreal, rising about 30 floors above street level. It sits directly on top of the Place Montreal Trust shopping center, forming a single connected complex that combines office and retail space.
The building was completed in 1988 for the Montreal Trust Company and later became the headquarters of Astral Media. When Bell acquired Astral, the tower passed to one of Canada's largest media groups and took on its current name.
The tower houses French-language television stations and media production studios that contribute to Quebec's daily broadcasting output. The entrance area tends to be busy, as media workers and shoppers heading to the floors below share the same lobby.
The tower stands on McGill College Avenue and is directly connected to Montreal's underground pedestrian network, which makes it easy to reach in any weather. The nearest metro station is McGill, just a short walk away through the underground passages.
Although the tower is a clear landmark on McGill College Avenue, many visitors do not know that its facade was designed to preserve the view corridor toward Mount Royal at the end of the avenue. This was a deliberate planning decision to keep the sightline between the downtown core and the mountain open.
