Allandale, Historic house in Sherbourne Street, Toronto, Canada

The Allandale house stands at 241 Sherbourne Street, featuring architectural elements that represent residential construction methods from the 1850s period.

Built in 1856 by brewer Enoch Turner, the house took its name from William Allan, the previous owner of the Moss Park estate where it stands.

The residence maintains a connection to early Canadian tennis through I.F. Hellmuth, founder of the Toronto Lawn Tennis Club and winner of the first Rogers Cup.

The house remains part of an integrated housing development that combines Victorian architecture with modern structures, following preservation efforts in the 1970s.

The property survived demolition plans in the 1960s through public protests, leading to an innovative architectural project that preserved historical buildings in the area.
