Inglefield Mountains, Mountain range in southeastern Ellesmere Island, Nunavut, Canada.
Inglefield Mountains is a mountain range on southeastern Ellesmere Island in Nunavut, part of the Arctic Cordillera. Extensive ice fields cover much of the terrain, with bare granite peaks rising roughly 1,500 meters above the surrounding landscape.
The range was extensively surveyed and studied during the 1980s, adding to knowledge of Arctic mountain terrain. These expeditions also recorded breeding bird populations that persist in the region today.
The remote mountain range represents an essential component of Canada's northern territories, connecting to the nearest settlement of Grise Ford.
The mountains remain inaccessible year-round due to severe Arctic conditions that make travel extremely difficult. Access is only practical from late May through August when extreme weather temporarily eases.
The range supports roughly a third of Canada's ivory gull population, a species facing serious conservation challenges. This concentration makes the area crucial for the species' survival at a national level.
