Our Lady of Combermere, Bronze Marian statue at Madonna House Apostolate in Combermere, Ontario.
Our Lady of Combermere is a life-sized bronze sculpture positioned among towering pine trees adjacent to the Main House, with arms extended in a welcoming pose toward visitors. The monument occupies the grounds of Madonna House Apostolate, where it receives visitors daily throughout the year.
The sculpture was created in 1960 by artist Frances Rich, commissioned by a grateful pilgrim as a gift to the community. The Sacred Congregation of Rites in Rome granted its official title within about two months of installation.
The statue serves as a focal point for prayer and contemplation within the Madonna House community, which integrates Eastern and Western Catholic spiritual traditions.
The grounds are accessible year-round and host regular prayer services at the outdoor shrine throughout the seasons. Visitors should dress appropriately for outdoor conditions and allow time to explore the surrounding paths and wooded setting.
The artwork was originally commissioned in response to a reported answered prayer experienced by a visitor to Madonna House. This personal story of gratitude remains woven into why pilgrims continue to visit and pray at the site.
