Port Arthur Collegiate Institute, Heritage high school building in Thunder Bay, Canada

Port Arthur Collegiate Institute is a high school building from 1910 with medieval and Flemish architectural styles, built from Simpson Island stone along Red River Road. The structure includes expansions from 1925 and 1954, as well as a gymnasium added in 1972 to accommodate diverse educational activities.

The building opened in 1910 and served Thunder Bay continuously as a school until closing in 2007. The institution played a central role in the region's educational landscape across nearly a century.

Memorial plaques and photographs in the main hallway honor former students lost during both World Wars. These tributes show how deeply the school was connected to its community across different generations.

The building is accessible from Red River Road with multiple entrances for easy navigation. Keep in mind that today it functions as a law school facility for Lakehead University, so public access may be limited to certain areas or times.

The building was transformed into a law school facility by Lakehead University in 2008, maintaining its educational role while preserving its heritage status. This adaptive reuse demonstrates how a historic school can serve new academic purposes.
