Shaarei Shomayim

Shaarei Shomayim is a modern Orthodox synagogue occupying multiple floors at 470 Glencairn Avenue in North York. The main sanctuary features a wood-and-glass divider that separates the prayer sections according to Orthodox tradition.

Founded as Hillcrest Congregation in 1928, the synagogue moved to different locations before arriving at its current site in 1966. These relocations reflect how the Jewish community expanded and shifted across Toronto over the decades.

Members gather here to observe Jewish holidays and life milestones, creating a strong sense of community among worshippers. The space serves as a center where families practice their faith together throughout the year.

The Sharp Sanctuary underwent a complete renovation in 2013 that merged the main prayer space, entry area, and event hall into one flowing design. This thoughtful arrangement allows the space to function smoothly for worship and gatherings alike.
