Millhaven Fibres, Synthetic fiber manufacturing plant in Millhaven, Ontario, Canada
Millhaven Fibres was a synthetic fiber manufacturing plant in Ontario. The facility included separate production areas for spinning, weaving, and processing fibers across a large site along Bath Road near Napanee.
The plant opened in 1955 as the third polyester production facility in the world. It initially produced Terylene synthetic yarn under the management of Canadian Industries Limited.
The industrial complex represents the evolution of Canadian manufacturing during the post-war period through architect John C. Parkin's functional design approach.
The site stretched across a large property along Bath Road near Napanee with convenient positioning for industrial operations. The location offered straightforward access to water resources needed for manufacturing processes.
Engineers at the facility developed the first polyester tire in 1968 by combining polyester materials with rubber compounds. This innovation represented a breakthrough in tire manufacturing and demonstrated the research capabilities of the plant.
