Pigne d'Arolla, Alpine summit in Valais, Switzerland.

Pigne d'Arolla is an Alpine summit in Valais with two distinct high points that reaches about 3,790 meters elevation. From this location, you can see across the entire Pennine Alps region and survey the surrounding mountain landscape.

The mountain was first climbed on July 9, 1865, when Adolphus Warburton Moore, Horace Walker, and Jacob Anderegg reached the summit. This early ascent opened the peak for systematic mountain climbing during that period.

The mountain is part of the Haute Route, a long-distance trail connecting Chamonix and Zermatt that draws climbers from around the world. This trail links several passes and peaks across the region into one continuous path.

Three mountain huts offer lodging for climbers: Cabane des Vignettes, Cabane des Dix, and Cabane de Chanrion, each with different approach routes. Choose your hut based on your planned route and check availability ahead of time to avoid running short on space.

In early summer, the north face becomes an ice climbing destination with routes across the Otemma Glacier. These frozen passages draw specialized ice climbers seeking technical challenges away from the regular paths.
