La Serpentine

La Serpentine is a mountain summit in the Valais Alps situated between the Bagnes and Arolla valleys. The peak rises prominently with steep rocky slopes that define the surrounding alpine landscape.

The peak served as a landmark for shepherds and mountaineers during the early period of Alpine exploration in Switzerland. For generations, it remained an important reference point in the mountain world shaped by local communities.

The mountain forms part of the traditional pastoral landscape where Swiss farmers maintain centuries-old practices of seasonal grazing at different altitudes.

Climbing is best undertaken during the summer months when mountain conditions are most favorable. Those starting from the valley should be well prepared with appropriate gear and experience for alpine terrain.

A prominent ridge at around 3,542 meters forms a natural passage between two major valleys. This passage point holds particular importance for navigation in this mountain region.
