The Zunfthaus zur Meisen is a guild building located on Münsterhof square, featuring French Rococo architecture and light-colored sandstone exterior. Inside, magnificent rooms showcase intricately decorated plasterwork and elegant furnishings, with spaces ranging from intimate chambers to large halls.
The building was completed in 1752 when two widow stonemasons won the construction contract by submitting lower bids than male competitors. This rare victory allowed women to exercise influence in a male-dominated trade.
The building once served as a gathering place for guild members, the craftspeople and merchants who shaped Zurich's urban life. Today this connection to guild tradition is visible in the formal rooms and the craftsmanship of the interior decoration.
