Fridolinshütte, Mountain hut in Glarus, Switzerland.
Fridolinshütte is a mountain hut situated at 2111 meters elevation in the Glarus Alps, providing shelter and meals to climbers and hikers. The stone building has sleeping quarters and a kitchen where food is prepared for guests throughout the day.
The hut was built as one of the first Alpine Club shelters in Switzerland and has served mountaineers since its founding. Its establishment is connected to the development of climbing routes toward the Tödi summit, a major objective in alpine history.
The hut bears the name of Saint Fridolin and continues a tradition where local hosts welcome visitors with regional alpine cuisine. Among mountaineers and hikers, it has become a place where climbing knowledge and route information pass from one guest to the next.
The trail to the hut starts from Tierfehd and follows an alpine gravel path for much of the ascent before the final stretch becomes steeper. Sturdy footwear is necessary and trail conditions vary by season.
From March through May the hut serves as a base for expeditions to the Bifertenfirn glacier, where visitors can explore glacial landscapes. This seasonal focus draws mountaineers seeking the combination of alpine access and glacier experience.
