Chutes d'Ekom, Waterfall in Littoral, Cameroon
Ekom Falls is a waterfall in Cameroon's Littoral region where water drops about 80 meters through a series of steps along the Nkam River. The cascades create white water flows surrounded by lush green plant growth.
The waterfall became known internationally in 1984 when a film production crew selected it for scenes in the movie Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan. This attention from filmmakers brought the location to the world's notice.
Local communities maintain traditional ceremonies near the falls every Thursday, during which photography and general visits remain restricted according to customs.
You need to get permission from the village chief before visiting the falls. The route follows an unpaved path for about five kilometers from the main road marker.
The falls sit at a specific elevation that creates its own microclimate in the surrounding area. This climate supports plant species that do not grow elsewhere in the region.
