Centre climatique de Dschang
The Centre climatique de Dschang is a holiday village situated in the city at an altitude of about 1500 meters, featuring individual wooden cabins of varying sizes. The grounds are surrounded by trees and include horseback riding facilities along with a peaceful setting of paths for exploring.
The village was founded in 1942 and originally served as a rest spot for French colonists and soldiers to acclimate to the region's climate. It was the first facility of its kind in Central Africa and reflects the functional architectural style of that era through its simple wooden buildings.
The centre sits within Bamiléké territory, where local customs and crafts remain visible in weekly markets nearby. Visitors can experience this culture directly by browsing the markets where residents sell produce, textiles, and handmade items.
The centre is roughly an hour's drive from downtown Dschang on winding roads with parking available on site. Accommodations range from cabins with varying room counts to restaurants serving local and international dishes, with advance booking recommended during peak seasons.
In the late 1990s the French street theater group Royal de Luxe rehearsed here and used the location to prepare performances including their famous large puppet character. In 1966 the centre was featured on a Cameroonian postage stamp honoring the country's tourist resources.
