COSCO Tower, Commercial skyscraper in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong.
COSCO Tower is a 53-floor office building in the Sheung Wan district of Hong Kong, forming part of the Grand Millennium Plaza complex alongside Guardian House. The two towers share a podium base and together provide office space for a range of international and regional companies.
The tower was completed in 1998, shortly after Hong Kong's handover from Britain to China in 1997. It was built during a period when the city was reaffirming its place as a major financial center under a new administration.
The name comes from COSCO, the China Ocean Shipping Company, which had a major presence in the building after it opened. This connection reflects how Sheung Wan has long served as a landing point for Chinese state enterprises doing business abroad.
The building connects directly to Sheung Wan MTR Station, which makes it easy to reach from most parts of Hong Kong without needing to navigate the street-level traffic. If you are walking from Central, the route along Queen's Road is flat and takes only a few minutes.
The site where the tower stands was once part of the harbour, as much of Sheung Wan was created through land reclamation over the course of the 20th century. This means the ground beneath the building did not exist as dry land until relatively recently.
