Liang Yi Museum, Private museum of design in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong.
The Liang Yi Museum is a private design collection in Sheung Wan spanning multiple floors with approximately 20,000 square feet of gallery space. It displays classical Chinese furniture alongside European decorative objects from different historical periods.
Peter Fung founded this institution in 2014 after spending over three decades collecting more than 400 antique furniture pieces and artifacts starting in the 1980s. His dedication to acquiring these works shaped the museum's distinctive collection.
The collection features Ming and Qing dynasty furniture crafted from precious woods like huanghuali, displayed alongside European vanity cases from renowned design houses. Together, these pieces show how different cultures approached craftsmanship and beauty in their own ways.
Visits require advance booking and are available Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM, with guided tours included in the admission fee. It helps to reserve a time slot early since groups are small and time slots fill up quickly.
During guided tours, visitors can actually touch and examine selected pieces instead of viewing them only behind glass. This hands-on experience with historical objects is uncommon at museums housing antiques.
