Asia Art Archive

The Asia Art Archive is a documentation center for contemporary art forms from the Asian region in Sheung Wan. The institution preserves written documents, books, exhibition catalogs, photographs, and audio materials to make the development of art in Asia traceable.

The archive was founded at the beginning of the 2000s to document the rapidly growing contemporary art scene in Asia. This initiative was necessary because the work and networks of Asian artists had not been systematically collected before.

The archive focuses on documenting contemporary artists from across Asia and shows through its collections how this art scene develops and changes. Visitors can see how artists present their work and connect with each other.

The building is located centrally on Hollywood Road and is easy to reach by public transport. Most visitors should bring enough time for a thorough walk through, as the collection is extensive.

The collection was built through donations from artists and galleries across the region and continues to grow. This makes it a living archive that reflects the current art scene.
