Sai Wan Ho station, MTR metro station

Sai Wan Ho station is an underground stop on Hong Kong's Island Line, serving the Eastern District on Hong Kong Island. Its two platforms are stacked on top of each other, with one handling trains going toward Kennedy Town and the other toward Chai Wan.

The station opened in 1985 as part of the extension that brought the Island Line to the eastern part of Hong Kong Island. It was built during a period of rapid growth in the area, when new residential blocks were filling in the neighborhoods nearby.

The station shares its name with the surrounding neighborhood, which translates roughly from Cantonese as "western bay". The area around the exit is lined with local shops and street-level activity that gives a clear sense of everyday life in the Eastern District.

The station has elevators and escalators connecting both platform levels, which makes it easier to navigate regardless of which direction you are traveling. Trains on the Island Line run frequently, but during morning and evening rush hours the carriages can get very full.

Having two platforms stacked vertically is an uncommon design in the Hong Kong MTR network, where most stations place their platforms side by side. The layout was chosen here to fit within the limited underground space available beneath this part of the city.
