Annunciation Seminary, Catholic seminary in Bailu, Pengzhou, China
Annunciation Seminary is a religious training building in Bailu featuring Neo-Gothic and Neo-Romanesque details. The complex has several connected structures with tall towers, arched windows, and interior spaces designed for teaching and prayer.
French missionaries built the structure between 1895 and 1908 and ran it until 1949 as a training facility. The 2008 earthquake caused extensive damage, but experts carried out comprehensive restoration work between 2009 and 2016.
The chapel and classrooms show how European and Chinese building traditions came together in one place. Visitors can observe how the architecture supported religious instruction and connected different cultures.
The site is open for visits and requires no special preparation. The pathways are well-maintained, and the restored structure is stable and safe to explore.
Parts of the building were buried by earlier landslides and were deliberately incorporated into the restored structure after 2009. These hidden sections show traces of past damage and tell the story of how the site has struggled with natural forces over time.
