Tomb of Marquis Yi of Zeng

The tomb contains multiple chambers across 220 square meters, constructed with wooden beams and divided into specialized areas for different burial purposes.

Discovered in 1977, this fifth-century BCE burial site belonged to Marquis Yi, a ruler of the minor state of Zeng during China's Warring States period.

The tomb reveals ancient Chinese funeral practices through its arrangement of multiple coffins, including the marquis and eight women in the eastern chamber.

The northern chamber stored military equipment, while the central chamber housed musical instruments, reflecting the organization of burial spaces by function.

The site contains 64 bronze bells spanning five octaves, representing one of the earliest complete musical instrument sets found in Chinese archaeology.
