Dazhimen railway station

Dazhimen railway station is a former station featuring Gothic architectural style and a Latin cross floor plan, with interior space for approximately 400 people. The site now sits beneath the modern Dazhi Road Station, which functions as a transfer point for Lines 1 and 6 of the Wuhan Metro system.

The original site was built as Zhonghe Gate during the Ming Dynasty around 1368 and later transformed into an important transportation center. This conversion to a railway station reflects Wuhan's development during the colonial era.

The structure blends Chinese and European design elements that reflect colonial-era influences from the early 1900s. You can still observe how these different architectural traditions came together in a single building.

The original structure is largely inaccessible today since it sits beneath the modern metro station. Your best option for learning about the site is to visit nearby museums or check informational displays at the Dazhi Road Station.

The building is one of the last surviving examples of colonial railway architecture in Wuhan and has retained its original structural integrity. This makes it a rare witness to a transition period in the city's architectural history.
