Wuhan Art Museum, Art museum in Hankou district, Wuhan, China.
Wuhan Art Museum is an art museum in Hankou district occupying five floors across approximately 12,000 square meters. Seven exhibition halls occupy the second and third levels, connected by a central atrium with ring-shaped corridors.
The museum was founded in 1986 and relocated in 2008 to a former bank building situated between Zhongshan Avenue and Baohua Street. This move to a heritage structure marked an important shift in the institution's development.
The collection focuses on artists from Hubei province, showcasing paintings, sculptures, and photographs that reflect the region's creative traditions. You can observe how local artistic practices connect with contemporary works displayed throughout the galleries.
The upper floors house administrative offices, a lecture hall, and specialized areas for artwork restoration and preservation work. Know that a significant portion of the building supports behind-the-scenes conservation activities alongside the exhibition spaces.
Since December 2022, the museum hosts the Wuhan Biennale, a major international art showcase presenting contemporary works from around the world. This ongoing event features pieces across diverse media, including digital installations and technology-based art forms that complement the permanent collection.
